I have tried for several days now to find a grant, but...?

I have been researching all kinds of grants and how to apply. I also have heard there are companys that will give small donations for start up companys. I don't have a unique idea, just a t-shirt shop with my own theme that I have created a bunch of prints for, but I cant seem to find any category for this when looking for grant help. I need some screen printing machines and decal machines, along witha building( which is a bit of a catch 22) you need to show you found a building to get funding but you need the funding to obtain the building. Also I need to get a supplier for the t-shirts the way I figure it I am looking at a minimum of 20 k to start and I haven't even found anything close to that amount. I live in Delaware and that makes it even harder to start a business, plus my credit is shot from a previous bad investment. I hurt my back and can no longer do the physical work I used to but at the same time don't qualify for disability, I just want a chance to provide for my family

You stand a greater chance of getting a government-guaranteed loan through the Small Business Administration http://www.sba.gov/financing than a government grant. Read the SBA Financing page to learn about criteria needed for borrowing

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html

"The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments."

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business -- THERE'S NONE.

http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_BENEF_RPT.show

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Screening Disability: Essays on Cinema and Disability

Screening Disability: Essays on Cinema and Disability

$128.3

Depictions and portrayals of persons who live with disability in motion pictures have changed over time, sometimes reflecting, at other times influencing, societal attitudes and beliefs. Yet disability itself has no easily recognizable form. When isolated from the mainstream of human existence by artistic representations, the disabled individual is effectively transformed into an object of cultural fascination, a fragment of humanity, the Other. The disabled experience, defined only in relation to a perceived lack of human potentiality, becomes significant as a distorted mirror image of what we take to be human and thereby reveals our cultures preconceived notions of normalcy. Screening Disability was conceived to provide both an overview of the traditional methods of analyzing portrayals of disability in cinema as well as suggesting new directions for cinema and disability scholars to take. This book not only shows where the study of cinema and disability began, but it also marks a potentially new phase in the study of cinema and disability by incorporating elements of Film Studies that emphasize the priority of reception and the complexity of texts. Disability and Poverty

Disability and Poverty

$132.24

Poverty creates disability and disability creates poverty. People with disability are often among the poorest of the poor. In Bangladesh most people with disabilities live in the rural areas. They, and sometimes also their families, are often excluded both from their communities and from development initiatives. To know the poverty situation of the selected area, we first calculated the poverty line income to determine the poor and nonpoor. Since we didnt have the data on food and nonfood items to calculate the Tronqvist price index which was needed to calculate the poverty line income, we updated the poverty line income used in HIES2005 survey by the rate of inflation of the respective year. To measure the inequalities we used the Lorenz ratio. To calculate the intergenerational mobility of household land ownership and household food security we used Markov Chain techniques. We also used Generalized Estimating Equation to measure the risk of being disabled due to any of the causes we found such as, Filariasis, Goiter, Asthma etc. This book will be helpful for those who are interested to research on disability, also on poverty. Culture and Disability

Culture and Disability

$110.78

"Culture and Disabilty is a groundbreaking work on persons with disabilities from diverse immigrant backgrounds. It is a pioneering and practical volume dealing with topics that have been too long ignored. Using a ?cultural broker? model and written by individuals who have emigrated to the U.S. from countries such as China, Korea, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, Providing Cultural Competent Disability Services contains concrete examples, case studies, and recommendations that will help rehabilitation practitioners in their day-to-day activities. Providing Cultural Competent Disability Service also serves as an excellent supplemental text for undergraduate and graduate programs in rehabilitation and related disciplines." ?Paul Leung, Ph.D., CRC, University of North Texas One in ten persons living in the United States was born in another country, and in many areas this percentage is much higher. Minority groups are currently underrepresented in the rehabilitation professions; consequently many persons with disabilities are served by professionals from a culture that may be very different than their own. Culture and Disabilty provides information about views of disability in other cultures and ways in which rehabilitation professionals may improve services for persons from other cultures, especially recent immigrants. Culture and Disabilty includes chapters with descriptions of the interaction of culture and disability. A model on ?Culture Brokering? provides a framework for addressing problems or conflicts that often arise between service providers and clients from differing cultures. Seven chapters discuss the cultural perspectives of China, Jamaica, Korea, Haiti, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Vietnam, focusing on how disability is understood in these cultures. Each of these chapters includes a discussion of the history of immigration to the United State
