Cushion Added Comfort
My daughter is 2 yrs old and still not sleeping through the nite. (parents only)?
We live in an apartment, so letting her "cry it out" isnt the best solution. She wakes up 5+ times a nite. We have tried EVERYTHING from leaving the hallway light on, adding extra cushion to her bed for comfort, leaving the t.v. on, "maybe shes too hot" (turn fan on) "maybe shes cold" (add extra blanket), "maybe her molars are coming in" (dispense generous dose of childrens motrin). We have had it!! We have recently started spanking her when she starts throwing tantrums for us to come get her, but I always feel bad afterwards because I know she just wants to be close to me and my husband and sleep in our bed. What can I do?
Is she still taking a nap during the day? If not, that might be your problem. When kids get overtired it becomes physically impossible for them to fall asleep and stay asleep at night, this is what I tell all the parents of the kids I keep in my home day care and they are always surprised how much better their child sleeps at night after getting a good nap after lunch. A nap and an early bedtime are key! If she is napping and getting to bed early, you may try what my husband and I did when our daughter went through a little phase like this, a silent return to bed. When she gets up, go to her silently, don't even talk to your spouse, do not make eye contact, no lights, do not say a word. Put her back in bed, or lay her back down in her crib and leave the room. She needs to know that nothing will happen if she gets up, no negative or positive attention, just a boring trip back to bed. Good luck.
