What are some realistic paint schemes for the P-47 Thunderbolt?
I'm making a radio control model of the P-47 from scratch, but just wondering if any of you older military aviation junkies (or younger ones, haha) knew what some authentic paint schemes would be. I've seen a scheme that included a silver fuselage and wing, with a green stripe on the top of the fueslage, and yellow stripes down the wing, with a red stripe on the cowling.
But when I was younger, I remember having a little diecast model of the P-47 that sported a dark green fuselage with little other markings. There may have been a white stripe around the cowling, not sure.
Also, are were there any paint schemes that featured invasion stripes, like the Mustang's?
I've been doing a bit of research, but nearly all of the photos of the P-47 that exist are in black and white.

The olive drab color scheme was far more common on the earlier "razorback" models, but a few of the late "D" models carried it.
Invasion stripes where applied to every thing the allies flew on the western front during the Normandy landings, including hundreds of Thunderbolts. The second link is for an olive drab bubble top P 47D with invasion stripes.

Cowling was born in Hackney, London and studied mathematics at Brasenose College, Oxford from 1924 to 1930. From 1928 to 1930 he worked under Edward Arthur Milne. Old Merc 30 Hp two stoke? any one own one?
Bought a older boat that came with a 30hp merc on the back. Not even sure of the year of it. Think it is the late 80 or early 90 prehaps. Looks new, even under the cowling is very clean. All i been able to do is put it into a garbage can and fire it up. It starts almost right away without any starter run on. Shifts into gear smoothly. Problem is after idling for a few minutes , it kind of burps and quits like a misfire. starts right up again. Before you ask, i am sure it needs some tlc. But is this model even worth the effort to get it idling better? or just a old motor that should be put to pasture? I could buy a much newer motor, more power and better gas ect.....but if this one is even so-so on power, ect....why not run it out? plus also the cost factor of buying a new motor . I need to know if anyone has run one of these... buythe way..it will be pushing a 14 foot fiberglass some what deep hull..and pretty heavy .phew...thanks!
It may just need new fuel filter. Check the fuel tank to make sure it's clear of rust particles. I would not buy a new engine, but run this one until it breaks, which may be a really long time. It should push your 14 foot boat at a fairly exhilarating pace.
