How do you make a theater riser/platform for theater chairs?
Ok so this weekend my parents want to make a platform for the back row of our theater room. Whats a good website that gives you instructions on how to make a platform/riser?
First you make jacks. Jack are vertical studs with a top plate and bottom plate and strengthen with a slanting piece that goes from the top of one end to the bottom of the other end. You can use two and make an "X" brace but one is usually sufficient. The top plate and the bottom plate can be 1 x 3 but the studs should be 2x4 at 24" on center. So for an 8 foot long jack you would use 5 (one on each end and one at 2 foot, 4 foot, 6 foot), studs. The jacks should be placed no more than 24" on center and tied to gather with 1x3. Sheet over the jacks with 5/8 inch plywood. So for a riser of 4 x8 demensions you need 3, 8 foot jacks
