Does Anyone Know?
how to set hooks and the sling/chains length correctly on cranes????
i am looking into the regulation "Loler" and cannot find anything on this.

The usual rule is to keep the angle between legs on a multi leg sling as low as possible. They are usually only rated up to 90°, beyond this the SWL has to be derated. The best way to keep the angle low is to have the chains as long as possible but this may cause problems because it limits the maximum lift you can achieve.
Clutches are often fitted to allow the safe shortening of legs or to allow the adjustment of lengths to achieve a level lift. In order for the lift to be level the point of suspension on the hook (the bearing surface) needs to be above the centre of gravity of the load. If it is not then the load will tilt until it is directly below it. If the location of the centre of gravity is not known then often it is a matter of trial and error where small lifts are tried and adjustment done until the load comes up evenly.
Look at chain manufacturer's web sites for details eg Kuplex or Pewag.
Kuplex have a load chart. Pewag have an Industrial lifting products catalogue that is worth looking at but beware, it is 21Mb so takes some time to download on a slow connection.
