Should I relocate or keep plugging away for jobs?
I currently live in a small Southern town. The minimum wage is extremely low, the povertly level is high, and needless to say, the job market isn't very good. As a result of this, education and book skills aren't necessary, or even an advantage, for that matter. The catch 22 college graduates run into in regards to the paradox of getting a job with no experience but needing experience to get a job is complicated tenfold in my area. My question is this, and follows in two forms: I know that because of my location and need to relocate (I always stress that I will do so expediously and at my own expense) most employers in the big cities to which I apply won't give my resume a second look. Should I keep applying in such a way, or should I pack up and move to a big city on a whim and try my luck? I have a history degree and am nearly fluent in French and to a lesser extent, German. All of which are worthless in Alabama. I am a pre-law interest.
Hi, I live in a small town as well, my good friends husband was going throught the exact same thing as you are. Finally he said screw this, he moved his family (him,wife and three kids) to the nearest big city (5 hours away). Within 2 weeks he had an awesome job making about 90,000 a year. I would also recommend taking your resume and going right into the place and trying to talk to them right then and there. Good luck!!
