Pemmican was a portable food required for long trips, such as for fur-trading and the buffalo hunt. The red-river cart was used as transportation, especially for trade goods. It was usually pulled by an ox. (Horse were too expensive.) Because nails were too expensive, it was joined together by jointed pieces of wood, and lashed with rawhide.
