My son broke his leg (tibia and fibula) and have a fiberglass cast, thigh to toes, still sore, I want to know useful tips and how-to help to care for him while he's in the cast (a long time), my son is 4 y/o, please tell me the best things that I can do in the everyday life, because he's only in his bed now but we are going to get a wheelchair and a walker soon, please, I'm asking for help. Thanks
At 4 it's very unlikely that he'll manage a walker as he just won't understand about keeping his weight off the broken leg.
I'd get the wheelchair. If it's possible, get him a child size wheelchair with self propel wheels (the large ones he can reach for himself) as he'll be able to have a limited level of Independence then.
There isn't really that much else you can do. Maybe put him on the floor with his toys and encourage him to figure out how to crawl / bum shuffle about.

Can/how can parents who are in wheelchairs physically take care of their young children?
Obviously being in a wheelchair doesn't make a parent any less smart, loving, caring, etc. than one who's walking.
But is it possible - and if so, how - for someone in a wheelchair to physically care for a toddler or other young children at home alone? Little kids can get into danger (intentionally or not) so easily. What if a kid climbs on a counter, grabs something she shouldn't and runs away, etc.?
I take my son to The Little Gym (www.thelittlegym.com) and there is a dad there on a wheelchair who takes his 13 month old son every week. From what I can see, he has no problem at all taking care of his son. At the Little Gym, we teach our young kids to be mobile, run around, rolls, and other things and this dad has no problem at all.
I have no other info on him other than this, but I just wanted to share that people with disabilities find other ways of coping. Parents are resourceful when taking care of their kids and this is more true for people with disabilities.
