What are the critererions used to calculate maximum allowable number of passengers on a passenger/RoRo ship?
I want to know how the max. allowable no. of passengers for a passenger/RoRo ship is calculated, Criterions and formulas used for this purpose, who determines the passenger capacity of a ship involved in international journeys, or any FREE resources where I can find this information.
passenger capacities are set by the National Authority of the country where the ship is registered; all reputable NAs work from the SOLAS ( Safety of Life at Sea) standards set by the International Maritime Organization ( www.imo.org) so start there.
Lloyd's Register of Shipping, the American Bureau of Shipping and DNV are the big 3 classification societies..ie private firms that inspect ships and set standards based on IMO regs, so you could also look at them for more info......

(ATTN: computer wizzes) Want to buy a computer off ebay, but it seems risky?
I need a desktop computer, and $150.00 w/ free shipping on Ebay seems to be a little too good to be true, but tempting.
I have no clue about computers and what your standard daily use desktop should include and what is normal? For your everyday desktop computer for a college student, what # ranges and types should I be looking for as far as the following goes? Please help..

doesn't really matter for your purposes (basically need to run MS office and internet). Basically any thing made by AMD or Intel

at least 1.5ghz, 2 is good, above 2ghz is good but not needed.

doesnt matter

at least 1gb. You can get by with less on windows XP, but chances are it will need 1gb+ for vista or windows 7. Don't get more than 4gb ram - you won't need it.
"Hard Drive Capacity"
again, doesn't really matter, as long as it has enough space to for the OS, programs, and some storage. Typically new pcs have 120gb at a minimum, but this doesnt really matter.
When in doubt, try other online stores. 150$ sounds too low for a new computer ($200 seems about minimum)
