Foldable mountain bike?
Have any of you bought a foldable mountain bike before? I saw one from Everest which is selling for about GBP150 which has 21 speed shimano gears, wheel size is 26 inches, dual disc brakes, dual suspension and weighs about 19kg. So my question is is it worth it? and if you have had any problems with it? i would prefer a foldable bike but many out there are very small or should i just not bother and get a normal mountain bike? To be honest the bike looks rubbish and at that price you can be certain it is. For them to able able to sell at that price and make a profit the components are going to be made as cheaply as possible and that means 2 things. It will weigh a ton and will be very unreliable. I would also be very worried about how safe it was. A folding mountain bike is probably not a good idea in the first place as you do not want an inherent weakness built into the frame of something designed to go off-road. To have this feature on a cheap bike like this is madness. I certainly would not want to risk my life on it.
If you are buying an new bike you should be thinking of a minimum of £300 if you want something that will last more than 6 months. If you really do want a folding bike that you will be able to take off-road (a little) you might consider this by Dahon (the folding specialists) http://www.dahon.com/intl/cadenza8.htm. Don't buy any bike from ebay or a catalog. Go to a bike shop where you can try it out before you buy.
