What are black steel pipes made of ?
What is the difference between black steel pipes and galvanized steel pipes when used for water or gas, and why?
Black Metal pipes are commonly made from unfinished, black (lacquer) steel.
Hot-dip galvanizing is a form of galvanization. It is the process of coating iron or steel with a thin zinc layer, by passing the steel through a molten bath of zinc at a temperature of around 860 °F (460 °C). When exposed to the atmosphere, pure zinc reacts with oxygen to form zinc oxide, which further reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate, a dull grey, fairly strong material that stops further corrosion in many circumstances, protecting the steel below from the elements. Galvanized steel is widely used in applications where rust resistance is needed, and can be identified by the crystallization patterning on the surface (often called a "spangle").

Are black powder rifles and pistols able to puncture a steel Cuirass or other steel plate armor?
Are crude, black powder weapons able to puncture steel armor and is this the reason that this kind of armor fell out of use? if so, were there any other kinds of medieval protection that would work against muskets and such?
Historical armor was nearly always wrought iron. Steel was only used in the very finest weapons. until the industrial revolution of the1800's steel would have been far too expensive for armor.
Even if it WAS steel, a musket would generally not have trouble defeating iron or steel plate armor.
In order to have a good chance of stopping a bullet, an iron breastplate would need to be far too thick and heavy to be useful. I'm talking on the order of 1/2 an inch and weighing .200 lbs.
Back in those days lives were very cheap. It made more sense to just abandon the armor entirely, and use the money to field as many men as you could. Protection came in superior numbers and superior tactics.
Longbows and crossbows proved to be very effective against armor as well. This was well before black powder reached Europe.. It was the widespread use of longbows in battle that put an end to the era of knights and chivalry, about two centuries before guns came to Europe.
