What are some things you can eat your first few weeks after Bariatric Surgery?
Also tell me a few things that I have to look forward to. I had the sugery on Sept. 8th 2008. The biggest problem I am having right now is ideals of things I can eat so I can have a variety. Just looking for some ideals if anyone would like to share there stories it would be great.
Your “new” stomach is roughly the size of an egg. It will stretch to the size of a cup in about a year. You can avoid discomfort and complications if you do the following:
• Eat small, frequent meals (five or six) throughout the day. (Your stomach will be too small to hold large meals.)
• Chew all foods slowly and thoroughly. (It may take you up to an hour to complete your meals and snacks.)
• Drink fluids 30 minutes after your meal. Be sure to drink in sips.
• Do not drink fluids with your meals. Your smaller stomach may not be large enough to hold fluids and food at the same time.
• Do not eat sweets.

Whats the difference between controlling what you eat vs having lap band surgery?
I have been on weight watchers now for about 2 1/2 weeks and have lost 11 pounds. I have found its not so difficult to eat fresh fruits and replace, hershey bars, chips and junk food with a wholesome banana, apple orange or some yogurt. I admit, I love to stuff myself with junk food and my biggest downfall is Mt Dew, but when it really comes down to it, I know I dont need all this garbage food and weight watchers has been fairly easy. In the end, I will be proud of myself for not having spent thousands of dollars on lap band and losing the weight. To be exact....about 75 lbs.
Why do people go thru the hell of surgery and then repeated trips to the doctor and not just control themselves? Whats the deal...end the end, its either control your own desire to eat out of control or surgery to make you do it. Whats the deal? Anyone here have lap band surgery or bariatric surgery. It almost seems like a fad. I have met so many people lately who are doing this. Is it a cop out?
The difference is permanent weight loss and not gaining it back. With Lap-band I eat a small amount (of anything I want) and feel full. When dieting I never really felt full. The band is placed high on your stomach where the nerves are that signal when your stomach is full. So just by it being there you can control your appetite. I don't have to struggle, I simply eat a small portion of food & am satisfied. Even though I can eat virtually any food I like, I tend to eat healthy choices now just because I like it. Surgery is not for everyone, but don't put down those that need it. The cost was covered by insurance and I only see the doctor about twice a year.
