Active Care Spitfire
Why is it that family members(aunts, uncles, grandparents...) seem so indifferent to help watching/caring?
for children of their Sons and Daughters?
I ,mean 35 years ago when I was a little spitfire, my grandparents, uncles.....watched us, changed our diapers when necessary...........Today, White American Families are basically on their own. It seems everyone has to work or just does their own thing.
An example is the TV Show...Jon and Kate +8. Kate has stated that the childrens' grandparents do NOT play an active role in their lives. We know some are deceased but what about the other grandparents, uncles, aunts............having 8 children is something very special today. 40 years ago many familes were that big and for good reason.
Btw----I believe that children not only need a Father or a Father-like figure but they also need the exp, time and love of that an extended family provides. Sure, many families are seperated by many miles or even countries. I'm refering to families where most of their relatives live very close-- say under 30 minutes away.
its sad but people have become so me oriented ...and family's pay a big price..... the children pay even more... they miss out on so much by not having the extended family.... i was born with 14 grandparents still alive and all in my life.... if I messed up who ever was closest would correct me... now days people take that as someone questioning there ability to parent... its not about them ... it was more about knowing that there was a consistency in the world.. I deal with small children every day and so many don't even know there grandparents or they are still not living.... the extended family is a gift that is almost lost today and it is a great loss.. I meet grandparents who say I raised my kids I'm not doing it again.... but those same people will put there kids down because they are not saving money or spending the proper time with there kids... well that might be because they don't have the help that family has always been... many older people think they had it hard but it is just as hard today just in a different way... pride gets in the way of younger people not allowing them to say I need help.... our children.. and our future... is and will continue to pay the price.... respect comes into play when some one helps us just say thanks instead of thinking they are trying to tell us how to live our lives.....
this is a question that we all should think about young and old
